A coupon is not insurance. It is a cash price negotiated for people who pay out of pocket. If you already have a prescription, comparing that cash price with your copay is often the whole decision.

Ask the pharmacist to run both

On a single fill you usually pick one: the insurance claim or the coupon. You do not stack them. A good counter will tell you which number is lower. The coupon price can win on a generic and lose on a brand drug your plan covers well.

What a coupon does not do

• It does not write a prescription.
• It does not count toward your deductible.
• It does not guarantee the drug is in stock at that pharmacy.
• It can exclude some pharmacies, doses, and quantities.

When a visit comes first

If you do not have a prescription, a savings card cannot create one. That is a telehealth or in-person visit, which is a different bill. Those options are on the comparison page.
